What is Vitamin D3? Vitamin D is increasingly regarded as a super-nutrient because scientists are discovering more and more proof as to its crucial impact on our health. Vitamin D contributes to the absorption of calcium in the body, playing a key role in the health of our bones and teeth. It supports muscle function and the immune system. Our bodies are designed to rely on a ready supply of vitamin D that our skins synthesise from exposure to sunshine – hence the term the sunshine vitamin. This first came to light in the early 20th century, when poor urban children started experiencing the bone disease rickets caused by a combination of poor diets and reduced exposure to the sun. National research recently revealed that one in five of us has low levels, putting us at risk of bone pain, fractures and other health problems. In the UK, the sun isn’t strong enough for us to make vitamin D between October and March, and our increasingly indoor lifestyles mean that even in summer many of us don’t get enough levels of this important vitamin. Why is ours better? It contains exclusively vitamin D3, which is the form of vitamin D produced naturally in the body in response to sunlight. Research shows that optimum intake levels of vitamin D are now far higher than originally thought, so we’ve included 25µg (1,000iu) of natural source vitamin D3 into each daily tablet. Who is this for? Vitamin D3 25µg is ideal for those who don’t consume enough dietary sources of vitamin D or are not getting sufficient exposure to sunlight. Public Health England recommends that everyone should consider taking a vitamin D supplement in winter and that people at greater risk of low levels should do so all year round. Made in the UK.
