What is krill oil? Krill are tiny crustaceans, about the size of your little finger, that live at the bottom of the marine food chain and feed on nutrient-rich algae. They float around in huge swarms that can turn the ocean into a pinkish colour. There are about 500 million tons of krill in the Southern Ocean and each can live for up to 10 years! What sets krill oil apart from standard fish oils is the presence of astaxanthin and marine phospholipids. Astaxanthin is a type of carotenoid and natural antioxidant that gives krill oil its deep red colour and protects its nutrients from oxidation. Marine phospholipids act as a natural emulsifier to aid in the digestion of the omega 3 fatty acids naturally present in the oil. These fatty acids are transported and integrated into cell membranes quicker and more efficiently – the reason why krill oil is thought to be more easily absorbed than standard fish oils. Why choose Healthspan’s Super Strength Krill Oil 1,200mg capsules? Our krill oil is sourced from a pure environment in the cold and unpolluted waters of the Antarctic, in a sustainable and traceable manner. It is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC); our partner Aker Biomarine works closely with MSC, the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) and the Norwegian World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to promote the sustainable management of marine resources and minimise the impact on the environment. Super Strength Krill Oil 1,200mg is extracted exclusively from Euphausia superba, an Antarctic krill species rich in omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), as well as phospholipids, astaxanthin and choline. The phospholipid-bound omega 3 fatty acids are water dispersible, making them gentler on the stomach and better absorbed by the body, ensuring a successful delivery to key parts of your body, such as the brain, heart, eyes and liver. Our capsules not only are easy to digest (no reflux!) and easily absorbed, but also are scented with vanilla flavouring to ensure they don’t smell or taste fishy. *The beneficial effect for brain and eyes is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA. The beneficial effect for heart is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of EPA and DHA. The beneficial effect for liver is obtained with at least 82.5mg of Choline per day.
