Fluconazole holds a licence to treat Thrush for patients between the ages of 16 - 60. Therefore, we would like to bring it to your attention that if your consultation states you are under the age of 16 or over the age of 60, then we have no other alternative than to CANCEL your order. Please note that orders for Fluconazole are restricted to three capsules per customer and household. Any orders that would take a customer beyond this limit will be cancelled without warning. What Is Canesten Thrush Duo? Canesten Thrush Duo contains one 150mg capsule of fluconazole and one 10g tube of clotrimazole cream to clear the symptoms of thrush (candidiasis) in men and women and also yeast infections in women. What is Thrush? Thrush is the most common bacteria imbalance of the vagina affecting 70%-75% of women in their lifetime. Thrush can occur because of natural bacteria in the vagina has become disrupted for example if you are or have recently been on antibiotics, have taken hormones (e.g. contraceptive pill) or steroids. Physicality’s can attribute to the infection of thrush for instance a weakened immune system due to cancer treatment, iron deficiency or those who are pregnant. Symptoms may include a red, itchy vulva, pain when urinating, and a cottage cheese resembling yeast-like smelling discharge. In men, it usually affects the head of the penis – causing irritation, discharge and redness. Men and women can both be affected by thrush and if your partner is suffering from thrush you should seek treatment to clear the symptoms so that the infection does not persist. How does Canesten Duo work? The oral capsule which contains fluconazole works from within to clear the thrush infection, while the clotrimazole cream when applied to sore and irritated areas effectively calms the itch. The cream should be used 2 or 3 times a day until the symptoms disappear. How to take Canesten Thrush Duo Take the capsule with water at any time of the day with or without food. In most cases taking one Fluconazole 150mg tablet is enough to clear up the infection as it continues to work after the tablet has been taken. If your symptoms do not change within 1-4 days seek medical advice from your doctor. Apply the cream to the external surrounding areas of your vagina and back passgae where symptoms show such as burning skin and itchiness. Rub the cream in gently up to three times daily. If you are on your period you may use the cream during this time. You may use the cream until the internal infection has gone. Side Effects and Precautions Medical advice should be sought if this is the first time the patient has experienced symptoms of candidal vaginitis. The product is available from pharmacies without prescription and includes a leaflet that advises the patient - Do not use Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream without first consulting your doctor: If you are under 16 or over 60 years of age If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Canesten Thrush Duo Oral Capsule & External Cream or other antifungals and other thrush treatments If you are taking any other medicine other than the Pill. If you are taking the antihistamine terfenadine or the prescription medicine cisapride If you have had thrush more than twice in the last six months If you have any disease or illness affecting your liver or kidneys or have had unexplained jaundice. If you suffer from any other chronic disease or illness. If you or your partner have had exposure to a sexually transmitted disease. If you are unsure of the cause of your symptoms. Women only: If you are pregnant, suspect you might be pregnant or are breast-feeding. If you have any abnormal or irregular vaginal bleeding or a blood stained discharge If you have vulval or vaginal sores, ulcers or blisters. If you are experiencing lower abdominal pain or burning sensation on passing water. If you are experiencing any adverse events such as redness, irritation or swelling associated with the treatment. If you are experiencing fever or chills, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. If you have foul smelling vaginal discharge. Men only: If your sexual partner does not have thrush. If you have penile sores, ulcers or blisters. If you have an abnormal penile discharge (leakage). If your penis has started to smell. If you have pain on passing urine. Recurrent use (men and women): patients should be advised to consult their physician if the symptoms have not been relieved within one week of taking Canesten Oral Capsule. Canesten Oral Capsule can be used if the candidal infection returns after 7 days. However, if the candidal infection recurs more than twice within six months, patients should be advised to consult their physician.
